Texas DI eXtreme Challenge 2026

Pay for EXtreme

Who:

For Middle and Secondary Level Teams

What:

Think of it as a Texas-sized Instant Challenge. Teams do not know anything about the Challenge in advance of the competition. On competition day, they will receive their Challenge and the materials with which to solve it.

When:

Saturday, February 21th

Why:

Because it’s SUPER fun! The Texas eXtreme Challenge requires teams to be ready for anything in order to meet the demands of the Challenge and whatever obstacles are thrown their way. It's also an additional opportunity for teams to advance to the Texas Affiliate tournament.

Team Formation

  • The eXtreme team can have the same members as a team competing in a competitive Challenge.

  • However, the eXtreme team does not need to have the same members as those who may be solving a competitive Challenge.

  • In fact, the eXtreme team does not need to be competing in any other competitive Challenge at all.

  • Mix up the team all you want, except

  • Students can only compete on one eXtreme team.

Registration

  • Obtain a team number for this event by January 5. Go to this link to apply for an eXtreme team number. You will get your number on January 5th from Jenny Jarvis. You also need to pay the fee, which you can use the button at the top of this page. If you have questions, please reach out to Sreedhar Vetcha (svetcha@gmail.com).

  • Teams do not buy a Team Number from DII to participate in Texas eXtreme. However, teams do pay for this tournament event through the NExT website event registration page.

  • How much does it cost? The eXtreme Tournament Registration Fee is $150

  • Do I have to provide a volunteer/appraiser for the tournament?

    • Teams who have already provided a tournament day volunteer are not required to provide an additional volunteer/Appraiser for their eXtreme team.

    • Teams who are only competing in eXtreme Challenge must provide a volunteer/Appraiser or pay an additional Appraiser Fee of $50.

Practice

  • Teams can meet and practice as little or as much as they want.

  • Practicing collaborating virtually and in person are great ways to prepare for this event. Try working on Instant Challenges or an Escape Room as a team.

Advancing

  • Results will be announced February 21

  • Top-scoring teams advance to the Affiliate (State) Tournament. This is not a DII Challenge, and teams do not advance to Globals.
