Torchbearer Award (for Project Outreach)

The Big Fix (Technical - Elementary Level)

This DaVinci Award was given for outstanding overall creativity in a presentation. The scenery and props were perfectly interwoven with the technical aspects of the challenge, and the flashback with two distinct time periods was highly innovative. Other highlights included a beautifully created Ferris wheel, Wild West scenery, and a complex armadillo costume.

The Big Fix (Engineering- Elementary Level)

This Renaissance Award was given for outstanding design and engineering. The team wowed the appraisers with an amazing design created from simple, inexpensive materials. Their working net conveyor executed their task perfectly!

First Encounter (Scientific - Elementary Level)

This Renaissance Award was given for outstanding performance. This team demonstrated well planned acting, staging, and transitions between scenes. The team truly embraced “theater in the round”, playing to all sides and seamlessly executing scene changes while never loosing the beat of the story. The whole performance was fluid and entertaining from start to finish!

This team was nominated for exceptional engineering and design in Instant Challenge.

To the Rescue (Improvisational - Middle Level)

This Renaissance Award was given for outstanding design and engineering in the Improvisational challenge. The team astounded appraisers with a sound keeper box that transformed into a working cello. The team also created a “reed” instrument using PVC and wax paper that sounded like a real clarinet. All their instruments were original, well designed, and so effective for creating beautiful sounds.

This team was nominated for incorporating teamwork and spirit into every aspect of their team challenge. From the moment they entered the prep to the moment they left the performance site, their engaging team spirit wowed the appraisers. Their costumes and props were designed to work together in a way that exhibited a unified team spirit, and their outstanding, engaging performance showcased their exceptional teamwork.
